Pesticide safe-use essentials

General educational guidance. Follow the approved product label and competent authorities in Sudan.

For unconsciousness, seizures or breathing difficulty, seek an ambulance or the nearest emergency department immediately. Do not wait for SAGA email replies or delay help while identifying the pesticide.

Read the label first

Check the product, expiry date and intended use. Follow label rates, application directions, precautions, pre-harvest and re-entry intervals. Ask an agricultural professional if instructions are unclear.

Protect yourself when mixing and applying

Wear the protective equipment specified on the label, including suitable gloves, eye protection and protective clothing. An ordinary mask does not replace a required respirator. Check application equipment. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling pesticides.

Protect yourself when mixing and applying

Mix only what is needed and protect nearby areas

Prepare only the amount needed and follow the label. Do not mix products without approved instructions. Follow wind and drift restrictions, keep bystanders, children and animals away, and protect water and pollinators as directed.

After use and waiting periods

Wash hands and exposed skin, and clean protective equipment as instructed. Wash contaminated workwear separately. Observe product-specific re-entry and pre-harvest intervals; there is no single interval for every pesticide.

Safe storage

Keep pesticides closed in their original labelled containers, secured away from children, food and feed. Never use drink bottles. Follow storage instructions and protect against leaks and flooding.

Disposal of containers and leftover pesticides

Never reuse pesticide containers or pour leftovers into drains or water sources. Follow the label and ask the competent authority about collection and disposal of pesticide waste and containers.
